On the cover of my fashion magazine, I will be attempting to create it based on the conventions of Teen Vogue. I will test many different camera angles and shots such as close up, low angle shots, a full body shot and other various ones. I have decided to do a full body shot because I believe that the model as well as the clothes that they are wearing are the most important thing to see due to it being a fashion magazine. This would allow the reader to see what kind of fashion magazine this would be. I have also taken into consideration the target audience of 14-18 year old, because of that I will be using a model that fits the age range. My model will be wearing casual clothes to represent that the magazine is casual summer wear. I have also decided to take my main image in the recording studio because I feel like it has a casual element to it as well as good lighting for my cover to be shot in. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? In this project, I have had to look at different fashion magazine like Teen Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and many other magazines. My magazine definitely challenges the conventions of a fashion magazine due to the model I have decided to use. The model I have used is wearing a hijab which automatically subverts the conventions of the magazine because it is not common for a magazine to use women wearing a religious or traditional piece of clothing such as a hijab. This is Rhianna.  She is a 15 year old studying for her GCSEs at NMBEC. Her favourite colour is purple because she believes that it reflects her calm personality and her favourite thing to do in her free time is to go shopping with friends or family. The genre of music that she prefers to listen to is soul and her go to musical artist is Xxxtentacion. In school, her favourite subject is Drama and her last is Religious Studies. She loves drama because it gives her a way to express creativity through passion easily with actions as well as emotions.She doesn't usually read magazines,  but the one that she would choose to read is Teen Vogue. This kind of information would be very useful for constructing my magazine because this will give me an idea of what kind of style my target audience is mostly interested in.

During my market research, I have noticed that most of the fashion magazines I came across have a very simple font for their title. There is also not too many colours clashing with the masthead.The masthead of the magazines are usually bold, in serif font and usually tend to use the colours pink or black in them. Occasionally, they would use red white and blue also to make the masthead stand out more.

I have constructed a survey for students to answer in order to get feedback and take it to create my project. Also, the thing that they mostly look for in the magazine are the models featured in them.

While I was looking at different fashion magazine covers, I have noticed that most of the main models of the magazines are female and that the masthead of the magazines are either black or pink.  they also tend to use black, pink, red, white and blue in the covers of the magazines also. The use of pink stereotypes the fact that women are mostly involved with the colour pink. Red and blue are primary colours which signifies the simplicity of all of the magazines together. These colours will appeal to women the most due to the demographic of the magazines being predominately female.

I plan to design and create a fashion magazine that is suitable for the age range of 12-18. By going to a school with students from 14-18 years old, it gives me the perfect opportunity to get some useful information on what young people these days appeal to fashion wise. This would really help me get a variety of views on fashion and style. The types of research that I will have to use are interviews and surveys in focus groups. This technique would help out quite a lot because doing interviews one on one would take up a lot of time due to me wanting to ask a decent amount of people about what they like to read about in fashion magazines. The steps that I will take to complete these types of research are that I will write up a few questions, ask a group of students if they would be interested in taking time out of their day and have an interview with other people around to see if they are comfortable. Prelim Task: Initial Reaction How should I start this... well, my name is Lucy and right now I am a Year 10 student who is studying Media Studies for their GCSEs. This term, my whole class have been shown a brief and assigned the task to create our own  fashion magazine covers as well as a contents page for 14-18 years olds to appeal to. To be honest, I am actually really excited to start this because I will be able to use and discover a range of different software such as Photoshop and others. Although I am excited, I am also a bit worried that I will not be able to grasp the way on how to use these things properly. This would be my first time actually using a photo editing software so I may not know the basics just yet, but eventually, I will get the hang of it.
